New Gunpla Announced

New Gunpla! Coming our way is a new version of the Wing Gundam EW, RG Strike Gundam, HGUC versions of the Dreissen, Jegen ECOAS type, and a pair of Titanium redecos of HGUC Unicorn and Sinanju.  Thanks to G.G. for the info!

I'm not sure how I feel about another Wing Gundam EW since the Ver. Katoki is basically the same thing and I think from what little i've seen of the new one looks alot better, but redecos are no stranger in Gunpla. Looking at you Zaku II.

RG Strike Gundam? I'm really interested in the RG line now, well given the final product looks fairly awesome. I'm probably going to pick up the RG RX-78-2 Gundam to dip my feet into the RG waters first
The new HGUC kits look pretty amazing too, i'm not a huge fan of the Jegan but I always loved the Dom and the Dreissen looks fantastic, looks like a good buy!
Head over to G.G.'s Blog for additional details. Images also from his following article: Hobby Magazine (Mar. Issue) - New Gunpla Announced! (Edited)

RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 2.0 Weathered

So I got something done today on my day off. I successfully weathered the RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 2.0 and the results are amazing! I put the Tamiya Weathering Master to the ultimate test, one the original Gundam itself and the outcome really makes this Ver. 2.0 kit SHINE....well not really, but you know what I mean :D

I primarily used the Soot palette on the Gundam, I also have another weathering master kit with an oil stain pallete I also used in certain colored parts such as the blue and the red parts. I applied a Silver Gundam marker to apply some metal scratching to the armor. It really was weathering in a simplistic manner, I may go back in add actual damage to the kit but i'm thinking i'll just preserve it just how it is. It's nice to see this kit at 100% complete unless something crazy comes up, it's very fitting since it's the first Gundam I completed fully, and it's actually the first Gundam! Keep up the Gunpla, Newtypes!

Road to Ohaycon Pt. 1

Hey folks, just a small update. I've been working a bit more than usual because business has picked up so the Gunpla is slow and will probably slow even more until next month. At the end of the month me and the significant other will be heading to Columbus, Ohio for Ohayocon where I intend to pick up a new kit(s)! So I wanna take a moment and think about some new and old kits I would like to find!

First one the list is the MG Sinanju, this kit just looks fantastic like it's on-screen counterpart and those in the community have already built and cherished this one. Gotta be my turn! The mobile suit is piloted by Full Frontal of Gundam UC, who is referred to as the second coming of Char Aznable, the Red Comet, and with the look of this baby, with good reason! If I see it at Ohayocon? Instant buy!

Second on the list is something that gradually grew more and more interesting to me and that's MG The O. This bad buy MG kit is HUGE and I love Zeta kits, nuff said! This imposing machine is known from being the suit that Paptimus Scirocco piloted in Zeta Gundam, the evil bastard!

Another kit I really wanna build is another take on the RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 2.0 kit and that's the MG Full Armor Gundam. It really looks like quite the suit and the green and orange really stands out. I really fell in love with this mobile suit while playing Universal Century Online. Definitely one of my favorite MS-Vs!

Kshatriya! Oh yeah, what's not to love about this HG kit from Gundam UC!? Piloted by Mirada, aka Puru Twelve, this Zeon machine is a beast and for a HGUC kit? It's HUGE! I said this year I wanted to break into more HG kits and hopefully this will be my first kit in that goal!

Well that's just a small list, but that's it for now stay tuned for part 2! Keep up the Gunpla, Newtypes!

Wing Gundam WIP #2: Straight Build Complete

What a refreshing kit this was. Nice and simple, aside from the wings being tricky in spots. My first impressions of this kit as I built through the top half was it was going to be a super tiny MG kit, however those legs came through and it stood tall! I was impressed by that. I didn't bother with any foils aside from the eyes, which I don't like so that'll be removed soon, instead I used Tamiya Clear Green for the shield and chest piece and added metallic green to the camera on the head and the Buster Rifle with a Gundam Marker I got from Hobbytown USA. I love that they are carrying Gundam kits and supplies now, but the kits are rather expensive! Anywho. Next step is the decals and possibility some LED lights, being this is a smaller kit that could get tricky, must draft plans. Keep up the Gunpla, Newtypes!

Johnny Ridden's Zaku II Ver. 2.0 LED/WEATHERING WIP #1

Well I was able to get some work down on the Ridden's Zaku II last night, got to play with the Tamiya Weather Mastering kit for the first time and proved to have some interesting results, I need to hone my skills as to where to place the weathering on the kit but overall for my first try I am happy with the results. All weathering was done with the Soot tamiya weathering and applied with a weathering stick, plus a silver Gundam marker and a pin vise for a bullet hole in the just that still needs to be refined a bit.

Also I did some head mods to place the LED unit safe and snug, that part still needs some work as the helmet is not closed as much as I would like it to be but it's working so far! Another area I need to work on is my photography skill when it comes to bright lights. As you will see, the LED unit in the mono-eye comes off bright in my casual pic below, I will attempt some better grade photos later when I purchase the materials for a better setup because this picture doesn't really capture the weathering I did the right way either especially the top half of the model.. Keep up the Gunpla, Newtypes

LED Lights. Get.

So me and the significant other made a huge purchase of LED lights and they came within two days from Evan Designs! Gunpla is really going to benefit from this. Some of already saw some of my previous experience with LEDs, filling the eyes of the Gundams and some weaponry work, but I feel like it was just nothing but goofing around. I plan to find real ways to incorporate these watch battery powered LED lights in my kits without the annoyances of wiring and whatnot. It will be an interesting week! If you want cheap LEDS, click the image below. Keep up the Gunpla, Newtypes!

Burning Errupting Finger!

This was a test for some LED work awhile back and I really want it to be a permanent solution for the kit, especially with the accompanying Master Gundam in the backlog will make for an epic battle scene! Any thoughts would be great!

Decal Work and some Weathering!

Update time! I went back to the Gegloog Ver. 2.0 for a bit more touch up on it. I applied some waterslides and became a custom decal job along with some slight test weathering tests as you can see in the picture below. I picked up the some Tamiya Weathering Master systems, and so far I like the effect it achieves, it's a cheap and easy way to do weathering for a novice like myself. This is also my first venture into using pins as you can see in the lower part of the model, I really like the effect it achieves.

I'm delaying the Unicorn and Mk. II projects for some pretty ambitious reasons, well atleast for the Unicorn. The Mk. II 2.0 will be something I am looking at to experience my first use of after market products. If my plans for the Unicorn go through I can safely say it will be the gunpla experience of the year for me, however, I already managed to damaged some of it's parts so i'll have to replace some of them before working on it again, which is another reason for the delay.

The Strike Freedom Project is coming along nicely, will probably get to the decals this week but I have a small distraction that's called the Wing Gundam! Yep, started watching Gundam Wing again and it's kicked off my drive to build the Wing Gundam and i'm sure the Deathscythe EW will follow it! The Wing Gundam is definitely a smaller build especially coming off the Nu Gundam build which was a large kit. There's a photo below showing the progress, I am not liking the eye decals I will be removing that and doing a paint job for the eyes. LED work will go into this kit, I intend to light up the eyes and the chest piece in the middle.

I have figured out my Gunpla New Year's Resolution! Alot of this community has inspired me with their New Year posts to their blogs about HG kits, I own one HGUC kit, which is in pieces for painting, and that's GM Command Space Type.  I would really like to give HG kits more of a chance because until now MG has taken up most of my interest but I see alot of praise to the HG kits lately and I wanna get in on that action, especially since it's a cheaper alternative to MGs! It will have some challenges though, especially with the upcoming MG ReZEL Commander Type. These UC Kits are amazing and I'm loving every one of them that come out.

Keep up the Gunpla, Newtypes!

The Strike Freedom Restoration Project or...TSFRP!

Well I thought I would add a small update today, and show some of the work I've done on the Strike Freedom Restore Project, from this photo alone you can see all the extra gold I have added to the model to really bring out the rest that came with it, also the muddy gold parts Bandai didn't plate I went ahead and plated. When I saw the PG Strike Freedom, it gave me the idea for the DRAGOON's vents to be painted in gold but I gave it a bit of a wear effect since weathering will be added to this model soon. Now some of you experienced modelers will notice one of the most irking of mistakes...some of the parts are missing here. The red triangle for the V-fins is missing, the red parts of the rifles are had to be the red parts, stuff the eye always notices! I suppose I better order parts for it and fix that issue. :P The next step is to apply the waterslide decals that just came in the mail, the next update should cover that until then keep on Gunpla-ing, newtypes!

Happy New Year!

Well, the holidays were fantastic, back to the grind, and back to Gunpla? What's in store for the new year?

I have found myself with so many kits I have constructed from the head to the waist unit, I guess I have some subconscious thing about finishing the legs! So that being said January will be spent finishing up the Unicorn Gundam and Gundam MK. II HD since most of them are already done. Last night I applied some Tamiya clear red to my Gundam Unicorn's Destroy Mode, I prefer it over the slight hue of pink it had before. Bleh!

Project Strike Freedom restoration has been started, some of you know this was my first real MG build and I was a complete novice/noob/tool what have you with it, so i've been sanding away all the nubs and what not, I filled in the lazy parts Bandai didn't actually gold plate myself, i've erased all the panel lines with a great Gundam Paint Eraser marker and redid them with a GOLD gundam marker, it looks fantastic.

A few orders came in from over the holidays, which included the waterslide decals for the above project for Strike Freedom. Two more kits were added to the list of to-dos! MG Gundam Deathscythe EW and the Qubeley!

I said back to Gunpla yet I failed to mention I did actually Gunpla in North Carolina where I successfully built the MG Nu Gundam. Overall it was a good and easy build, though i'm somewhat disappointed at the bulky appearance and how flimsy the fin funnels where which I fixed with sticky tac.

Well back to work! Seeya!

Also a side note, those of you interested in Gunpla should really check out Gundam Guy's new store GG Infinite! Great service!
